Memphis basketball will face Evansville — for the first time in program history — as part of its 2026-27 non-conference schedule.
The game is set to be played Nov. 22 at FedExForum, according to a copy of the competition agreement obtained by The Commercial Appeal from an open records request on June 24. It will be Penny Hardaway's team's final tune-up before its trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis (Nov. 25-27).
The Purple Aces were 7-25 last season, have not had a winning record since the 2017-18 season, and have not participated in March Madness since 1999.
The Tigers are paying Evansville a guaranteed sum of $90,000 to make the trip to Memphis, per the terms of the contract.
Memphis' home game against Louisville has also been set for Nov. 15, according to an updated amendment to that game's contract. The Tigers and Cardinals began a six-game series last season in Louisville.
Meanwhile, Memphis will host Utah State on Feb. 20, 2027, per the updated terms of that series' deal. Last season, the Tigers met the Aggies on the road. The game between them at FedExForum will represent the conclusion of that home-and-home agreement.
Adding Evansville to the slate means there are three games on Memphis' non-conference docket that have not yet been formalized. Two of those contests are expected to be guaranteed buy games against low-major opponents.
The Tigers are set to play 14 non-conference games and 18 American Conference games this season, beginning with the neutral-site matchup against Iowa State on Nov. 2 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Hardaway recently told The Commercial Appeal the Tigers are "still planning on" scheduling multiple preseason exhibition games against high-profile programs.
