Meet Louisville-area high school boys athlete of the week nominees

The nominees for this week's Courier Journal boys athlete of the week delivered on Louisville-area tracks and baseball fields.

Voting is underway for The Courier Journal's boys athlete of the week. The poll closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced Friday.

Here are the nominees:

James Gurley, Collegiate track and field​

Senior posted a time of 4 minutes, 11.81 seconds and finished second in the Dream Mile on May 1 at St. Xavier.

Ryan Holmes, St. Xavier baseball​

Senior tossed a one-hitter and struck out six over seven innings in a 2-0 victory over Bullitt East on April 30.

Dylan Hornback, North Bullitt baseball​

Senior was 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs in an 18-8 victory at North Laurel on May 1.

Carter Poole, Collins baseball​

Senior tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven over seven innings in a 9-0 victory over Shelby County on April 28.

Grayson Willoughby, Trinity baseball​

Senior tossed a six-inning no-hitter and struck out eight in a 10-0 victory over Floyd Central (Indiana) on April 29. Also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
