(KODE/KSNF) — It’s been a two-year labor of love for students and staff at McDonald County High School and Wednesday they showed off the new home to the area’s students-only Disc Golf course.

Teacher and Coach Christopher Kane founded the club in 2024 and when he discovered that traveling to neighboring cities was the main roadblock standing in the way of students enjoying this sport—they decided to build their own course.
Kane says funding assistance came from major national disc golf organizations and from local community members and has allowed the group to open a nine-hole course—exclusively for student use—right in their own backyard.

“I wasn’t into disc golf until it came here. And I was actually just walking through the hallway one day and saw one of the posters on the wall and decided you know what? this might be fun,” said Rising Junior McDonald County High School.
“I used the PDGA and also a company that’s closely related to them called EDGE Disc Golf, which is the educational disc golf experience, and they both have websites dedicated to growing the sport. So, all I really had to do with that was get on there, fill out the application for the grants and then go from there,” said Coach Kane.
Coach Kane says he hopes other schools in the area will be encouraged to start disc golf clubs of their own, building on the healthy competition between neighboring communities that already exists in other sports.
