Another Marquette men's basketball guard will be looking for a new team next season.
Sean Jones has entered the NCAA transfer portal after four injury-filled seasons, the Journal Sentinel confirmed on March 31. The Field of 68 was the first to report the move.
Jones joins Tre Norman as MU players moving on after MU's 12-20 season. With Zaide Lowery's mid-season departure, the Golden Eagles have three open scholarship slots for next season's roster.
More: Marquette faces crucial offseason. Here are Shaka Smart's biggest needs
Jones, a 5-10 guard from Ohio, was one of the first players fully recruited by head coach Shaka Smart to MU in the class of 2022.
The scrappy Jones showed flashes of being a disruptive defender, and also hit a few clutch shots, including a 3-pointer that helped beat UCLA in the Maui Invitational in 2023.
But Jones hasn't been able to shake the injury bug. He only played in eight games this season with shoulder and turf toe maladies.
He also redshirted last season while rehabbing a devastating knee injury that he suffered on Jan. 10, 2024. Jones also was bothered by injured wrist during his freshman season.
Jones will have one season of eligibility remaining, though it is possible he could petition the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver to get another year.
