A nightmarish season for the Washington Commanders finally turned back in the right direction last week, and that momentum appeared to carry into the early portion of Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
With the defense playing better and Marcus Mariota managing the game well, the Commanders looked more formidable than the version of themselves that was shut out by the Minnesota Vikings two weeks earlier.
That momentum was halted when Mariota was forced to head back to the locker room in the second half, putting journeyman Josh Johnson in position to make a rare appearance.

Marcus Mariota injury update
The Commanders announced Mariota was evaluated for a concussion and cleared but is questionable to return with a hand injury.
Mariota went into the medical tent after throwing the ball away and colliding with some of his teammates on the sideline during the third quarter of Sunday's game.

While it's unclear which moment he suffered an injury, Mariota appeared to have a towel over his throwing hand and soon went back to the locker room.

Journeyman Josh Johnson, who is 39 and is 1-8 as a starter over parts of 18 NFL seasons, is Mariota's backup with Jayden Daniels shut down for the season.
