The Section 1 and Catholic league baseball playoffs are in the home stretch.

Section 1 has reached the double-elimination semifinals in four of five classes with the smallest class, C, already prepared to move on to next week's finals, which will also be double elimination.

Earlier this week in Class C, No. 1 Tuckahoe swept No. 5 Haldane in two games and No. 3 Leffell did the same with No. 2 North Salem.

Below are the results from Friday night's semifinal openers in the other four classes, which are larger schools.

Semifinals will continue Tuesday, May 26 after a break for Memorial Day.

Section 1 semifinals​


Class AAA

Friday, May 22

No. 1 Ketcham 5, No. 4 Arlington 0

No. 3 Mamaroneck 10, No. 7 Scarsdale 4

At Mamaroneck, the third time proved to be the charm, as the Tigers, who'd dropped both their games to Scarsdale during the regular season, poured on the runs and got a great effort from starting and winning pitcher Olsin Daly. Daly gave up just one hit over five innings. Luke Reagins had the big blow, a bases-clearing, 3-RBI triple. Jack Perez had two hits and two RBI and Declan McIntyre had an RBI triple. Scarsdale's Koji Hirata took the loss. John Gasthalter and Bret Hole each had an RBI single. Scarsdale will play in a semifinal elimination game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Arlington. Mamaroneck will play at No. 1 Ketcham at 4:30 p.m.

Class AA

No. 1 Rye 5, No. 4 Horace Greeley 0

No. 3 Yorktown 3, No. 2 Mahopac 2

At Mahopac, Yorktown twice was able to keep the Wolf Pac from scoring after it had loaded the bases. In fact, Mahopac left 12 runners on base. Yorktown's Liam O'Connor got the win, going three innings and giving up two runs, only one of them earned, on two hits and three walks. Jack Falk pitched a scoreless third of an inning and Jake Sgobbo picked up the save, allowing one hit and three walks over 3.2 innings. Chris Lanza went 2-for-3 for the Huskers with two doubles, driving in two runs. Brandon Manchess had two hits and scored a run. Alex Ornstein and Lirim Bibeaj also scored. Swaraaj Pujari.also had two hits and a walk for Yorktown. Michael D'Amore took the loss for Mahopac, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks in two innings. RJ Grabeklis pitched five scoreless innings in relief, giving up three hits and two walks and striking out four. Nick Masciarelli, who had a hit and three walks, drove in a run. Jake Cotter had two hits and scored a run and Nate Mascoll also scored. Mahopac will host Horace Greeley Tuesday in a 4:30 p.m. elimination semifinal. Yorktown will face No. 1-seed Rye at Rye.

Class A

No. 2 Byram Hills 4, No. 3 Pelham 0

No. 5 Pleasantville 2, No. 9 Pearl River 1 (11 innings)

At Pleasantville, a marathon game that saw both teams get out of multiple jams and which featured great pitching, ended in the 11th inning when Declan Bruder drove in Jack Dearstyne with the winning, walk-off run. Paual Buccheri went 3.2 innings in relief, allowing no hits and no runs, to notch the win Starting pitcher Reed Supranowitz hurled 7.1 innings. He allowed three hits and struck out 11. He went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and Jack Van Sise also had two hits in four trips for the Panthers. For Pearl River, which earlier upset No. 1-seed Tappan Zee, Connor Buckley hurled 8.2 innings giving up one run and striking out nine. TJ Gerondel scored for Pearl River and Luis Gomez had a double. Pearl River will play at No. 3 Pelham in a semifinal elimination game Tuesday. Pleasantville will play at No. 2 Byram Hills

Class B

No. 1 Putnam Valley 7, No. 4 Blind Brook 0


At Putnam Valley, Reece Horan pitched complete-game three-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts. Luis Peduto was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Evan Peterson doubled, tripled, scored three times and drove in a run. Christian Martin and Ryan Dinizo both had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run. Matt Quinn and Aaron Pierre also both had a hit and scored. Pierre also walked twice and stole a base and Dinizo walked once. Trojan starter Alex Schneider took the loss, going two innings and giving up four hits and two runs -- only one earned. Putnam Valley will host No. 2 Briarcliff in a semifinal game at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. Blind Brook will play at Pawling in an semifinal elimination game.

No. 2 Briarcliff 14, No. 3 Pawling 13 (8 innings)

At Briarcliff, Xander Donofrio, who connected on a grand slam earlier in the game, hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chase Thompson notched the win in relief, going two innings, allowing two hits and no runs. Second baseman Zach Seim came up big with his glove and his bat. He recorded six putouts, had four assists and was part of two double plays. At the plate, he went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scor3ed and two RBI. Thompson homered and drove in a pair of runs. Christian Macri had two hits, scored twice and had an RBI. Lucas Martinez had two hits, including a double, scored three times and had an RBI. Max Amador tripled, had a steal, scored twice and had an RBI. For Pawling, Alfy Middlebrook took the loss, going 1.1 innings. He gave up three hits and a walk and gave up two earned runs. Carter Wrobel homered, walked twice, scored twice and drove in three runs. Lucas Carrozza had three hits, including two doubles, scored and drove in one run. Middlebrook had two hits and a walk, scored twice and drove in one run. Logan Martucci had two hits, walked, got hit by a pitch and scored three times. While Briarcliff travels to Putnam Valley for a Tuesday semifinal, Pawling will host Blind Brook in a semifinal elimination game.

Archdiocese Championship

Iona Prep 3, St. Peter's 0


At Fordham University, Gianluca Giordano hurled a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and two walks. Julian Guzman had a double and three runs batted in. Kaden Ceballos had a double and scored a run. Devin Diaz and Ethan Beretervide also scored. Joe Bello took the loss for St. Peter's. He went six innings and gave up four hits, a walk and three earned runs. He struck out three. Iona Prep will now play in the double-elimination Intersectional/City Championship. The first game will be Tuesday. The opponent, time and location are still to be determined.
