Major Disappointment

My 14 year old playing tackle football for the first time earned a series of snaps at noseguard in his first freshman game (albeit a blow out) and my sophomore played a third of the snaps on JV at defensive tackle after not getting a single snap last year on Frosh football.

How’s that for content?!?

I’m not going to lie, I thought about it for a hot minute. But I loved playing and wouldn’t want them to miss out on it - they grew up playing flag football and nothing else (despite my attempts to get them into everything and anything) and at high school it’s no longer available. My best friend broke his neck in high school playing and I think he said he’d do it all over again.

The tech in protective equipment is so much better than when we were kids and he’s got a good coaching staff that stresses proper technique. They do their practices wearing the helmet pads. And all of life, to some extent, includes risk. You have to decide which risks you think are worth taking.

And though they’re bigger (14 year old is 5’10 and 200lbs and 15 year old is 6’1 and 235lbs) I don’t think they’ll be good enough to do it past high school. So it’s limited exposure too.

Well can’t force coaches/teams to use the preseason to prepare their teams for opening day, I honestly believe in that , because I’m a senior citizen fan that seen it work in my youth , with a 12 game schedule - so go ahead worry about the last 3 players on the roster and the 40 that ain’t !
Maybe it takes cards 3 weeks instead of 4 weeks to get up to full volume , because starters seen a little time 9n first preseason game.

Me too. Everyone in my family thinks I'm joking when I say 2021- my son's SR year when they won the 5A title, was the best year of my life.

Yeah... I understand. I missed most of my sons football career. But in his junior season I got back in town just in time to get to a playoff game. Had been gone 6 weeks.
I sat in the stands and listened to students and parents alike cheer my oldest boy as he played the most amazing game I had ever seen.
Rushing TD, 45 yards
Receiving TD 37 yards
Kick return TD 92 yards
Punt return TD 60ish yards
Pick 6 for35 yards
I was so proud I cried through the entire second half...it was overwhelming...to see him excel..in his element...not showing off for dad because he didn't know I was there...just being excellent because that's what we do.
I watched him play and be humble and I watched him lead and support his teammates....
All those years of he and I butting heads over everything like a couple rutting rams...
But he was listening. That night I knew there was at least one task I didn't fail.
It was such a fulfilling realization that I actually backed off on the kid a little...then two days later he sat me down for a "talk", lol...because I hadn't been myself and he wanted to be sure I was okay, lol...so i cranked the hardass-o-meter back up to 10 and we went about our business

Not going to lie Oaken, I shed a tear when reading this. It's moments like this that truly mean the best of life. My two played competitively well into college. Now they have their own youngens and we get to relive it again.

Yeah I’ve got a fair amount of work travel lining up this fall and I am going to hate missing a single snap of either of my boys games. As it is I’ll only get to see 50% max of either because Frosh and JV play same night, one home and one away. So the wife and I will be split for every game.

Probably more a reflection of the state of the rest of the division vs. anything we've done of late.

Probably somewhat true. However, the coaching staff is very solid and defense on the rise. The biggest unknown is the offense. The odds of Cards being just good enough to get into playoffs seem pretty decent.

If they can't make the playoffs with the division at a major low, that's a huge problem. Rams have a qb with a bad back, Niners are in obvious transition, and the Seahawks are just a mid team.

The division is ours for the taking, I just wish our FO had more ambition to try and grab the division by the throat.

I actually think the division was at its ebb last season and the Cards missed their chance. Rams and San Fran gonna be better this year.

Thankfully we really killed the FA period, with such luminaries as Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols...which was immediately followed by us needing to replace both in this offseason. Wheeeee! Bang up job Monti!

We'll see...Stafford can't even practice and without him, they're toast. Can anyone explain why we didn't go after the Rams draft experts, as they are an actual example of a good drafting team vs. what Monti does?

San Fran should be better just by being more healthy, but they're far from a sure thing either. That WR room...one of the few in the NFL that's worse than ours!

True! Seems good for them, if you ignore all the other information about him only being able to stack consecutive days this week. For a guy that's taken as many shots as he has in 17 years, staying healthy the entire year with a bad back and 300+ lb'ers falling on him seems unlikely.

Amazing what happens when you have talent all around the roster! I don't think they'll be a playoff team if Stafford misses at least half the games, but we'll see.

Lots of dead money and turnover, but I wouldn't put it past them.

I don’t really get it either but if you believe in the wisdom of crowds and markets they’re still the favorites.

My son played club soccer and high school. Not a big soccer fan but love seeing him play and missed hardly any games. My Daughter played softball and that was a blast. Hell my kids were in band and I enjoyed that. They grow up fast
