Dec. 17—CALLAWAY — The Bemidji High School Nordic skiing team got a taste of what the Section 8 championships have in store on Tuesday.

Racing on the regular section track at Maplelag Resort in Callaway, the BHS girls took fourth place with 337 points, trailing first-place Fergus Falls by 44 points. The Bemidji boys took fifth place with a score of 333, only 35 back from Moorhead in the top spot.

The girls were led by Izzy Renn, who finished in fifth place with a time of 31:40.5. Claire (32.34.1) and Rylee Story (35:21.6) finished in eighth and 22nd place, respectively. Casey Story also took 32nd with a time of 37:07.8.

Chloe Derby (37:28.7, 33rd), Halle Aylesworth (37:40.8, 36th), Wendy Mellema (37:40.8, 37th) and Greer Simula (38:26.1, 38th) rounded out the day for the Lumberjacks.

Leo McKeon paced the BHS boys with an 11th-place finish in 27:48.8. Jack Martin was one spot behind in 12th at 27:54.2. Peter Mathews (30:20.8, 23rd), Jack Galloway (30:56.9, 25th) and Blake DeWitt (31:24.3, 29th) all finished inside the top 30 on Tuesday.
