Jan. 10—AURORA — Competing in one of its largest annual meets, the Bemidji High School Nordic skiing team battled against dozens of other schools at Giants Ridge.
The BHS girls took 13th, while the boys finished 26th at the Mesabi East and Giants Ridge Invite.
At the yearly Nordic skiing extravaganza, each school submits three boys and three girls as classic skiers and three more as skate skiers. The top two from each school garner points for their team.
Izzy Renn and Claire Story were the top two finishers for the BHS girls in the classic race. Renn finished with a time of 20:37.8 while Story clocked in at 20:53.8. Anika Harmsen finished in 23:15.
Rylee Story paced the Lumberjacks in the skate, finishing in 23:19.6. Halle Aylesworth was right behind her with a time of 23:27.3. Casey Story also competed in the skate race (23:58.9).
The Bemidji girls totaled 335 points. Duluth East (439 points), Minneapolis Washburn (422) and St. Paul Central (421) made up the top three team scores.
Leo McKeon paced the BHS boys in the classic race, finishing with a time of 19:30.5. Peter Mathews followed at 20:34.6, as did Logan Wilcox (20:56.6).
In the skate race, Jack Martin (18:16.4) and Liam Larson (19:56.5) clocked the two fastest times for the Jacks. Blake DeWitt finished with a time of 20:23.3.
The Lumberjacks collected 276 team points to finish 26th. Duluth East (465), Ely (451) and Brainerd (441) claimed the top three team spots.
