Eastview shows no signs of slowing down.
Entering the tournament undefeated and as the No. 1 seed and clear-cut favorite, the Lightning asserted their dominance in Tuesday’s quarterfinals, sweeping eighth-seeded East Ridge, 25-16, 25-11, 25-14.
The Lightning will face fourth-seeded St. Michael-Albertville in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul after the Knights swept fifth-seeded Spring Lake Park on Tuesday. Eastview fell to Rogers in the semifinals a year ago.
Three of the four quarterfinal matches ended in sweeps, with Johnson’s four-set loss to Wayzata serving as the only exception.
Jay Thammavongsa paced Eastview with 11 kills, while Brice Dehnel tallied 18 assists. As a team, the Lightning (32-0) finished with 33 digs and recorded 13 aces to just nine errors.
It’s the type of efficiency upon which Eastview’s dominance is built. Twenty-nine of its 32 victories this season are sweeps. East Ridge (17-6) is merely the latest victim. Still, it was a triumphant season for the Raptors, who made their state tournament debut.
Nathan Hegemann led East Ridge in digs (seven) and tied for the team lead in kills (five).
