Lu Dort faces an uncertain future with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He has a $17 million team option in his contract for the 2026-27 season that the Thunder could opt of in order to free up some cap space.
Lu Dort hopes to remain with Oklahoma City Thunder
Dort, however, made it clear that he hopes to continue his career in Oklahoma City.
“That’s a conversation that’s going to happen. It hasn’t happened yet, obviously, we just lost last night. But I have a lot of trust in this organization. I’m really grateful for all the stuff that [Thunder GM Sam Presti] did for me to this point, and obviously, I want to stay here," Dort said.
"This organization and this city really shaped me as a person and as a player, so the conversation is going to happen. Obviously, I want to stay here. This is like a home to me."
Dort has spent his entire professional career with the Thunder, so it's understandable why he isn't eager to leave.
If the Thunder do opt to turn down Dort's team option, that wouldn't necessarily mean that his time in Oklahoma City is over. He could return to the Thunder on a new deal in free agency.
But, there could be other teams out there willing to pay him more than the Thunder are able to. At that point, Dort would have a decision to make.
The Thunder have until June 29 to make a decision on Dort's option for next season.
