LSU softball is in a hole. The Tigers dropped their first game of the Baton Rouge Regional, losing 4-3 to Southeastern Louisiana. Now, LSU will have to battle out of the losers' bracket for a chance to advance.

LSU led 3-0 after three innings, but the Lions tied it up with three runs of their own in the fifth inning. Southeastern didn't surrender another run after that and scored once in the seventh to go up 4-3 in the final inning.

Southeastern had just four hits on the day, but it was still enough to score four runs thanks to LSU issuing five walks and committing an error. One of the Lions' runs came on a wild pitch.

After Southeastern's starter allowed the three runs, Lainee Bailey entered and threw 4.2 innings of shutout softball. LSU pitcher Jayden Heavener allowed all four of the Lions' runs, but only two were earned.

Seven different Tigers had a hit, but LSU was only 4-18 with runners on base.

Let's be blunt -- this loss is a disappointment. LSU lost to an in-state team in the postseason on its own field. LSU has its back against the wall now and will face UConn in an elimination game on Saturday.
