LSU softball is hosting an NCAA Regional for the 15th time in program history. This time around, the Tigers will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers, UConn Huskies, and Southeastern Louisiana Lions.

The Regional will run from Friday through Sunday. Here's our scouting reports and predictions for the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional:

Nebraska

  • Nickname: Cornhuskers
  • Conference: Big Ten
  • Head Coach: Rhonda Revelle (33rd season)
  • Tournament Appearances: 32
  • Best Tournament Finish: WCWS Finalist (1986, vacated by NCAA)
  • Regional Seed: 2

After a down year in 2024, the Cornhuskers came back in a big way this season. Led by senior pitcher Jordy Bahl — a two-time national champion at Oklahoma before transferring to Nebraska. Bahl enters the tournament with a 23-6 record and a 1.57 ERA, becoming the first player in Big Ten history to be named the league's Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

UConn

  • Nickname: Huskies
  • Conference: Big East
  • Head Coach: Laura Valentino (5th season)
  • Tournament Appearances: 9
  • Best Tournament Finish: WCWS (1993)
  • Regional Seed: 3

The Huskies managed to snap a 24-year postseason drought after winning the Big East tournament this season. Led by conference Player of the Year Grace Jenkins, who hit a league-leading .425 and 21 home runs, UConn managed five players on the All-Big East first-team.

Southeastern Louisiana

  • Head Coach: Rick Fremin (10th season)
  • Tournament Appearances: 2
  • Best Tournament Finish: Regional Final (2024)
  • Regional Seed: 4

SLU has broken through in the last two seasons, making back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. This year, they've been led by senior outfielder Shenita Tucker, who hit .396 with 24 home runs, and junior pitcher Macie LaRue, who went 19-2 with a 2.10 ERA on her way to being named SLC Newcomer of the Year. Those two, alongside infielders Maria Detillier and Chloe Magee, were named first-team All-SLC.

Predictions

The opening rounds will be all chalk, with LSU and Nebraska winning on Friday. On Saturday, the Tigers will beat the Cornhuskers before the Huskies eliminate the Lions in the first elimination game. In the other, Nebraska will beat UConn to stay alive until Sunday.

On Sunday, fans will see the first upset as the Cornhuskers shock LSU to set up a winner-take-all Game 7. But in that Game 7, the Tigers will punch their ticket to the Super Regional.
