It's another early exit from the NCAA Tournament for LSU softball. The No. 10-seeded Tigers (42-16) fell Saturday night to Southeastern Louisiana, 8-7.
Unlike Friday's matchup between these teams, both sides scored in the first inning, with the Lions (50-15) holding the lead. And again, unlike Friday, LSU battled back to tie in the middle innings.
As the game went along, though, SLU struck back to take the lead. The Tigers again tied it in the top of the sixth, only for the Lions to take it back in the bottom of the frame, only for LSU to tie it again in the top of the seventh. Ultimately, Southeastern walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.
It's the second time in the last three seasons LSU has lost its own Regional.
Redshirt junior Tatum Clopton was given the start Saturday night, but she struggled in the circle.
Clopton faced five batters in the bottom of the first inning, allowing all of them to reach base. Despite throwing just 18 pitches, she was relieved by Ashley Vallejo without recording an out. In total, she was credited for four runs allowed when runners Vallejo's inherited came around to score, although none were earned.
With the Tigers trailing by three runs, they caught a break in the top of the fourth.
A routine pop fly was dropped by SLU's Macie LaRue, allowing Maci Bergeron to start the inning on first. LSU jumped at the new lease on its season, rallying to tie the game.

Just two innings later, Jadyn Laneaux reached after a routine groundout was dropped. Laneaux, alongside Avery Hodge, came around to score the tying runs on a two-run Jalia Lassiter double.
With a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Vallejo left a ball in the zone which was crushed to left by Lions first baseman Maddie Watson. Somehow, the ball barely stayed in the yard, and Laneaux made a good play on it to hold Watson to a double.
The throw was slightly off-line, though, and ended up hitting a runner in the back, allowing her to come home and score the go-ahead run as Watson advanced to third.
