The college baseball transfer portal is off and running. It officially opened on June 1 and will remain open for the entire month. Still, the roster-building phase will extend into July as coaches balance getting portal additions and recruits to campus with the upcoming MLB Draft.
LSU baseball is expected to be active in the transfer portal. The Tigers disappointed in 2026, missing the NCAA Tournament despite begining the year ranked No. 2 in the polls.
As far as players leaving LSU, five Tigers have already announced plans to enter the portal. The most notable loss is pitcher Mavrick Rizy, who made several high-leverage appearances out of the bullpen.
LSU head coach Jay Johnson and the Tigers have plenty of needs. No position is off the table for LSU when it goes portal hunting. The Tigers return a solid core of young players from 2026, but LSU needs to add veterans at key positions like shortstop and outfield.
Today, we'll focus on a few pitchers LSU should take a look at. LSU will return its entire opening day weekend rotation from 2026: Casan Evans, Cooper Moore, and William Schmidt. But Moore is coming off an injury, and Evans and Schmidt were up and down. LSU won't turn down the chance to add an elite starter, even if it's not a top priority. LSU will certainly be in the mix for elite bullpen arms, though.
Here are three pitchers to know.
In 15 games with the Huskies in 2026, Suchy posted a 2.82 ERA across 89.1 innings. He struck out 105 and only walked 23. Those are elite numbers.
Suchy will be looking for a starting rotation job, and he'd have to compete for one at LSU, but we've seen proven starters from lesser conferences transfer to LSU before without the guarantee of a starting job. Zac Cowan was a bona fide starter at Wofford, but bet on himself at LSU, carving out a role as a high-leverage reliever and flex starter. Or, LSU could give Suchy a spot in the rotation and use Moore as a flex pitcher.
With Suchy's numbers, several top programs will be in pursuit. I'd expect LSU to give the lefty a look.
There's already confirmed interest between LSU and Trosclair, but LSU won't be the only SEC school in the mix for the left-hander from Northwestern State -- Arkansas is also expected to make a run.
Trosclair shone as a true freshman for the Demons in 2026. He posted a 1.89 ERA across 38 innings. He struck out 55 and walked 11. He's from Thibodaux, LA and the stuff is real. I mentioned LSU will be in the market for proven relievers, and Trosclair fits that bill.
Like Trosclair, Neiswonger is another true freshman with top-level stuff. It didn't necessarily show up in the stats, with the Central Michigan right-hander posting a 5.34 ERA, but he struck out 47 batters in just six starts. Neiswonger fits the profile LSU needs -- a talented arm willing to perform a multitude of roles.

Cayden Suchy, LHP, UConn
Kind of amazed there hasn't been someone going wild for Cayden Suchy out of UConn @CaydenSuchy.
Not often do you see left underclassmen at the upper D1 level with 100+ ks & conference POTY in the portal. pic.twitter.com/opL0TF235m

Brody Trosclair, LHP, Northwestern State
NEW: #LSU baseball has started to lay the groundwork on multiple players in the portal, including Northwestern State LHP Brody Trosclair.
The Southland Freshman of the Year unofficially visited #LSU on Tuesday, with an official visit expected soon after.https://t.co/4XiyppzBtB

Luke Neiswonger, RHP, Central Michigan
I will be entering the Transfer Portal from Central Michigan with 4 years of eligibility remaining. Grateful for the CMU coaching staff, and my time as a Chippewa. Trackman data available on request.
