The college baseball transfer portal is off and running and the LSU Tigers are active. Jay Johnson and Co. already secured two commitments -- Gonzaga transfer pitcher Landon Hood and Texas State transfer shortstop Dawson Park.
LSU has a strong core returning in 2027, but LSU still has plenty of needs after missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011. One of those needs is pitcher, despite LSU being set to return all three arms from its 2026 opening series rotation. Hood is on board, but LSU isn't done.
The transfer portal opened on June 1 and will remain open for the entire month. Still, the roster-building phase will extend into July as coaches balance getting portal additions and recruits to campus with the upcoming MLB Draft.
A few days ago, we looked at three transfer portal pitchers that would make sense for LSU. Today, we'll look at three more.
Valentin's stat line didn't impress at South Carolina in 2026 and he'll be looking for his fourth school in four years. Still, 64Analytics ranks Valentin as a top-15 available transfer. Valentin appeared in 21 games, starting eight for the Gamecocks. At LSU, he'd likely be a bullpen piece.
Valentin has 49 career appearances and LSU can get an arm with SEC experience without paying top price. Valentin pitched vs LSU in 2026, striking out six and allowing three earned runs in four innings. If LSU likes the stuff it saw from Valentin that day, the Tigers will give him a call.
The Mercer Bears mounted an impressive campaign in 2026 and several Mercer players have hit the portal looking to play power conference baseball. Lamber, a right-handed pitcher, is in that group. Per 64Analytics, Lambert is the No. 19-ranked player in the portal.
Lambert began his collegiate career in 2024, but missed 2025 with an injury. He returned in 2026 and posted a career year. Lambert's ERA was 4.31, but his opponent batting average was .217 and he struck out 90 in 71 innings.
LSU needs veteran relievers. LSU's bullpen struggled throughout 2026 as Jay Johnson didn't know which relievers he could trust. Shineflew, a rising senior, already has 151.2 career innings under his belt. He made 49 appearances across his three years at South Alabama.
In 2026, Shineflew struck out 63 in 55 innings. Of interest to LSU, he only walked 15 batters.
