LSU’s roster may not have many holes, but what factor could stop them from reaching their ceiling this season

With the major change at head coach for LSU, other changes were always going to be made throughout the team. This has been a disappointing past few years for the football program, so with Lane Kiffin taking over, he is going to want to win big right away. The roster needed several upgrades, and going into the transfer portal was the best way to make that happen.

Looking at the consensus around the CFB world, LSU had the best transfer portal class in 2026. It wasn’t just because they brought in a mind-boggling 41 new players; it was about the quality of those players. LSU was able to make real strides across the roster that teams may take at least two seasons to make.

Due to this success and retaining very important players, LSU’s roster is nearly complete. There are a few holes that can be blamed as major reasons the Tigers’ season went wrong, if that ends up being the case. But something does stand out as an issue.

With LSU bringing in so many new players, winning right away could be challenging. As building team chemistry is huge, and if this staff is unable to achieve that early, miscommunication and mistakes could become the norm. Which is just how good teams lose games.

Because we really do not know what Kiffin will do in year 1, there’s a chance he can bring this team together and avoid those issues, but unfortunately, if that doesn’t happen, the LSU Tigers could have a slow start to the season.
