Louisville football makes AP poll's preseason top 25 rankings

Louisville football will start the season ranked 24th in the AP preseason poll, released on Monday. It's the first time since 2017 that the Cardinals have been ranked heading into a season opener, coming in at No. 16 that year.

Louisville, which was just outside of the US LBM Preseason Coaches Poll top 25, opens the season against No. 9 Ole Miss on Sept. 6 in Nashville.

Head coach Jeff Brohm's team returns 55% of its production, which ranks 59th nationally, from a year ago. Most of that comes on the defensive side, with defensive lineman Clev Lubin — who made the All-ACC preseason team — linebacker Stanquan Clark, linebacker/safety Antonio Watts and cornerback Tayon Holloway leading the way. Offensively, running back Isaac Brown, an ACC preseason team selection, will look to stay healthy in leading the unit after averaging 7.7 yards per carry over the last two years.
