MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — There has been no shortage of opinions on the AHSAA’s decision to split public and private schools for championship play. WKRG Sports spoke with head coaches at public and private schools on Friday.
The AHSAA’s Central Board of Control voted 13-2 for the split. Former UMS-Wright head coach Terry Curtis (board president) and Blount principal Jerome Woods both voted against the measure.
Public schools will compete in six classifications (1A-6A) and private schools will compete in two classifications (four regions in Single A and two regions in Double A) beginning in the fall.
