LFP Media CEO Nicolas de Tavernost resigns following beIN Sports’ push to acquire World Cup broadcasting rights
LFP Media CEO Nicolas de Tavernost has handed in his resignation following beIN Sports’ push to acquire the 2026 World Cup broadcasting rights in France, as reported by Le Figaro. A couple of weeks ago, Tavernost thought he had a deal with FIFA to hand Ligue 1+ – Ligue 1’s in-house streaming platform – the rights to broadcast all of the 104 2026 World Cup games in exchange for a €20m package.
The deal was positively welcomed by every Ligue 1 club bar one, PSG, which is led by beIN Media group chair Nasser Al-Khelaifi. On Wednesday, FIFA eventually handed beIN Sports France the broadcasting rights that Ligue1 + were after in a shock twist. L’Equipe understands beIn Media outbid Ligue 1+ in offering to broadcast the 104 games of the 2030 World Cup. In these circumstances, Nicolas de Tavernost considered that he can no longer pursue his mission as the head of LFP Media.
