Stunning developments in the race for the 2026 World Cup TV rights. While Ligue 1+ believed it had secured an agreement with FIFA to broadcast all 104 matches of the World Cup for 20 million euros, the situation has taken a dramatic turn.
As revealed by L’Équipe, FIFA has ultimately yielded to beIN Sports’ higher bid, despite Ligue 1+ having already filled out and returned the broadcast contract. This spectacular reversal has completely reshuffled the deck.
The exact amount offered by the Franco-Qatari broadcaster has not been disclosed, but it may also include rights to the 2030 World Cup. The decision leaves Ligue 1+ in a precarious position after what seemed like a done deal.
