Bayer Leverkusen want to get back on track in the Bundesliga and hope striker Patrik Schick is fit to visit SV Hamburg, coach Kasper Hjulmand said on Monday.
He missed Saturday's 4-1 home defeat by VfB Stuttgart, which was not how Leverkusen wanted to start the new year after the mini mid-season break.
They travel to Hamburg on Tuesday looking to quickly make amends. Hamburg say the game is set to go ahead despite heavy snow in northern Germany, which led to two top-flight games being postponed at the weekend.
"It is good that we are playing again straight away. But it is important that we play much better than on Saturday," Hjulmand told a news conference.
"We hope (Schick) is good to go again. He is back in training."
The Czech international, Leverkusen's top scorer with six Bundesliga goals, had to withdraw at short notice on Saturday due to a muscle injury.
Winger Martin Terrier, who replaced Schick in the starting line-up, was ineffective as a main striker.
Defender Edmond Tapsoba is another key Leverkusen player who could also return to the squad against Hamburg.
The 26-year-old is back in training in Leverkusen after his Burkina Faso side went out in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
"Maybe it is a bit too early, but we will see," Hjulmand said.
By contrast, Africa Cup of Nations participants Ibrahim Maza (Algeria) and Christian Kofane (Cameroon) are not options. Both saw their nations eliminated in the quarter-finals but have not yet returned to Germany.
