Lens’ Pierre Sage features on Liverpool shortlist to replace Arne Slot

Liverpool have confirmed the exit of Arne Slot, two seasons after joining the club. The Dutchman won the Premier League title in his first season but struggled in his second, although UEFA Champions League qualification was, nonetheless, secured.

There have been doubts surrounding Slot’s future for several weeks, with Foot Mercato reporting earlier this month that, in the event of Slot’s exit, Andoni Iraola would be the favourite to replace him. The Athletic understands that the Spaniard, who has left AFC Bournemouth upon the conclusion of the Premier League campaign, is the favourite to succeed Slot at Anfield.

However, whilst Iraola is the favourite to become Liverpool’s new manager, there are other candidates, including RC Lens’ Pierre Sage. The Frenchman has repeatedly cast doubt on his future over the past week and told Téléfoot on Sunday that his dream was to manage Liverpool. VfB Stuttgart’s Sebastien Hoeness is another option.
