Laremy Tunsil injury: Eagles’ Week 1 opponent is dealing with bad news

When the Philadelphia Eagles host the Washington Commanders in Week 1, the Birds’ NFC East rival will be missing starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Tunsil suffered a torn triceps injury on Saturday morning that will reportedly cause the 32-year-old blocker to miss “at least a significant portion of the regular season.”

With the Eagles also set to play the Commanders in Week 8, it seems like Tunsil will miss both of Washington’s games against Philly this season.

Tunsil is obviously one of the best players on the Commanders’ roster; he signed a contract extension that made him the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman on an annual basis earlier this year.

Here’s how our frenemies over at Hogs Haven are reacting to this news:

Reserve offensive lineman Andrew Wylie filled in at left tackle after Tunsil left practice, but he’s not the answer at left tackle.

Brandon Coleman was in a position battle with Chris Paul to be the starting left guard, but Coleman’s likely the best option on the roster to move to left tackle. He made 12 starts at left tackle in 2024, before the Commanders traded for Tunsil in the 2025 offseason, and 15 over the last two years.

Coleman will surely fill in there in the short term. The Commanders will monitor that performance closely before looking outside the organization for help.

They also made mention of 2025 first-round pick Josh Conerly potentially switching from right tackle to the left side, where he played at Oregon.

Regardless of how their replacement plan shakes out, this is a really big loss for the Commanders. The Eagles’ defensive line, which has looked really good in training camp, needs to take advantage of his absence.
