The Los Angeles Lakers, ahead of a crucial offseason, have gotten Luka Doncic’s wishlist for the team.
Doncic has made it clear to the Lakers that he wants a center — something that he has been absolutely resolute on since the day he arrived in Los Angeles.
“Luka’s first and foremost desire is an A-list center,” a source told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
This continues a trend for Doncic, who has stressed that the Lakers need a consistent big-man presence who can rim-run and catch lobs, all while protecting the paint and working hard on the glass.

Ideally, Deandre Ayton would be that solution for the Lakers and Doncic, but he proved to be overall unwilling to play with the motor and willingness needed for that kind of role.
Ayton was terribly inconsistent, though with a center shortage in the NBA, Ayton is likely to opt out of his $8.1 million player option and get some long-term money.
The Lakers have put all of their eggs in this offseason, hoping to make a lasting impression on Doncic. They have a good deal of assets, along with the cap space and flexibility to get moves done as well.
According to McMenamin’s reporting, the Lakers have been hyping up this offseason to Doncic for a while now.
“Luka wants to be a championship team yesterday,” a source close to Doncic told McMenamin as well. “Ever since the trade, they’ve always told us: ‘summer of ’26. We’ll show you in the summer of ’26.’ So, we are so excited that the summer of ’26 is here.”

The Lakers have new ownership and a new front office incoming, making it imperative that the president of basketball operations, Rob Pelinka, nails his moves and truly builds a contender.
