Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
Horace Grant played a key role in the Lakers' run to the 2001 NBA championship by holding down the power forward position, especially on the defensive end. Weeks after L.A. won that title, he left in free agency, and in an attempt to replace him, the team signed Samaki Walker.
Walker was going into his sixth pro season and had spent the past two years with the San Antonio Spurs. He played two years with the Lakers and averaged 5.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 21.3 minutes a game during that time. In all, the 6-foot-9, 260-pound big man spent 10 seasons in the NBA and had career averages of 5.3 points, 4.7 boards and 0.7 blocks in 17.1 minutes a game.
His son, Jabari Walker, just wrapped up his fourth pro season as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.
