Canceling practices in the NFC West is the latest en vogue trend. Last week after completing voluntary OTAs, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan canceled mandatory minicamp scheduled for this week.
The Arizona Cardinals canceled the final practice of minicamp on Wednesday and only held one on-field practice instead of the three allowed.
Now, the Los Angeles Rams have joined the club. Head coach Sean McVay informed players that Monday will be the last day of their offseason program and that minicamp practices were canceled.
Depending on the player attendance, coaches often have seen what they need to see. Offseason program practices are in shorts with no pads. Coaches hate seeing injuries before pads go on. Plus, it is incentive for work well done for those who were there all offseason.
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur also cited the Cardinals' early training camp as another reason to end things early. The Cardinals will open training camp a week ahead of almost everyone else because they play in the Hall of Fame Game.
So if the Rams and 49ers can cancel all their minicamp practices in June, the Cardinals can cancel one and not have it be a big deal.
