The San Francisco 49ers are canceling their mandatory minicamp slated for next week, head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday after the team had 100 percent attendance this week during organized team activities (OTAs).
The move is an interesting one, as teams usually hold the mandatory minicamp in mid-June as the final practices before a long layoff heading into training camp, which typically starts at the end of July.
San Francisco was slated to hold its minicamp on June 9th and 10th, but will no longer do so, meaning the team’s final practice before training camp will be tomorrow.
The 49ers had their entire roster back in the building this week, apart from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, which has been a theme this offseason. Veterans on the team have been showing up since the start of the offseason, with many still recovering from injuries, while the newcomers have been fully in attendance as well.
San Francisco had originally planned to host its minicamp at the SAP Center in San Jose. Now, they’re giving their players extra time during the summer to recover and prepare for training camp ahead of the season.
Currently, training camp report dates for the 49ers have not yet been revealed.
