You're right! Who here thought that Ahmed was by far the best player on the team?

Steve mentioned early that Nick hit .400 vs. lefties last season. Meaning in the low .200's vs. righties. So far he is 3-for-7 vs. lefties and 5-for-10 vs. righties. And he says he has a different mindset at the plate.

If he doesn't sink into the low .200's against righties, that would be great. I think it even affected his fielding last year.

Goldschmidt is Goldshit so far this season

He's got jack-squat behind him in the line-up and Mr. Jack-Squat doesn't offer up much in the way of protection and/or threat... Therefore, Goldy is second in the majors in walks and will likely be at the top of this list all season. It forces him to demonstrate an incredible amount of patience, or, swing at pitches that are outside the strike-zone. It's going to be a very long, trying season at the plate for Goldy...

Indeed, Kat Longworth is a trooper. Not to mention, she's gorgeous as well.

I was also impressed that Jeff Mathis said to her, on the air as soon as it happened, "Are you OK?"

When we thought there might be a chance that Martinez could re-sign with the D-backs, there were a few posters who insisted that there is no such thing as protection in the batting order.

With Jake's repeated 2nd half swoons, Goldy will have only Steve Souza as somewhat of an incentive for opponents to pitch to Goldy when he returns.

I'm glad you posted about lack of protection. It is certainly a factor. And the older Goldy gets, the more it will matter.

And against left-handed pitching, if Lamb is in the line-up (which, according to Torey, the only way for Lamb to get over this hurdle is to actually play against lefties), the issue of protection is amplified as Lamb is nothing but a guaranteed out...

Which is why I mentioned previously that I hope that Pollock will be moved to cleanup permanently to hit behind Goldy and in front of Souza, moving Ketel Marte to second in the order permanently, which will get him better pitches to hit, too, going along with the new contract and hopes.

Peralta/Marte/Goldy/Pollock 1-4 with Souza providing traditional low batting average/high power behind them is a formidable lineup. With Catcher/Right Field/Shortstop/Pitcher rounding them out. I think that 1-5 will even help 6-8 (regardless of who is Catching or in Right Field) by having runners on base for them.

I don't like to be pessimistic, but I don't expect that to happen when Souza returns.
