The Arizona Diamondbacks (47-47) rolled to a victory in their series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers (61-34) and can clinch the series on Saturday night when the teams square off again at Dodger Stadium.

Tim Tawa homered and drove in four runs to lead Arizona to a 9-3 win on Friday night. Tawa’s two-run shot in the fourth inning spotted the Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead they never relinquished, and he added RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings, going 3-for-4 out of the ninth spot in the batting order. Eduardo Rodríguez worked six solid innings to improve to 8-3, allowing two runs on seven hits.
The game turned into a bullpen affair for the Dodgers after Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled start due to his irritated left knee and will skip the All-Star Game. Ohtani and Andy Pages hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first after Los Angeles gifted Arizona a pair of runs in the top of the frame, but the Dodgers wouldn’t score again until Miguel Rojas laced an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-5) draws the start for Los Angeles on Saturday night, entering with a 2.49 ERA and 0.879 WHIP in 104.2 innings over 16 starts. The Diamondbacks go with right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (2-1), who returned to the rotation on June 30 and comes in with a 4.84 ERA and 1.345 WHIP in 15 appearances and 48.1 innings, with five starts.
