The Los Angeles Angels are off to a hot start at the 2026 MLB Draft.

As hot starts go, the Angels have to get them when they can. L.A. is currently in the cellar, looking up in the AL West. As of this writing, the team is 10.5 games back of the Texas Rangers and nursing a 38-57 record.

It's increasingly important to welcome the next wave of Halos to the big leagues. Saturday started with a bang, with the Angels selecting pitcher Jared Grindlinger out of Huntington Beach High School with the twelfth overall pick.

The first day of the draft consists of four rounds. The Angels have picks No. 12, No. 45, No. 81, No. 109 and No. 141.

USA TODAY Sports Gabe Lacques has ongoing grades and analysis for each selection.

Latest MLB Draft grades from USA TODAY Sports:

No. 12 - Los Angeles Angels: Jared Grindlinger, LHP/OF, Huntington Beach (California) HS. Grade: A

Is it a new day in Anaheim? With Perry Minasian fired, the Angels spend their top pick on a high school product for the first time since Jo Adell and Jordyn Adams were picked in 2017-18. Grindlinger is obviously a roll of the dice but also exactly what the organization needs. — Gabe Lacques
