Tennessee baseball signee Jared Grindlinger was drafted No. 12 overall in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
The No. 12 overall pick has a slot value of $5,889,300. Grindlinger is all but assured to sign with the Angels and skip college.
Grindlinger, the brother of current Tennessee player Trent Grindlinger, was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 16 prospect before the draft. He is a two-way player but was drafted as an outfielder.
Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 5 high school recruit in the class of 2026, making him the highest-ranked member of Tennessee's highly touted recruiting class. He committed to Tennessee on April 1.
Grindlinger was the first Tennessee signee selected in this year's draft. He was one of 11 Vols signees invited to the MLB draft combine.
The Huntington Beach, California, product was originally in the class of 2027 but reclassed to 2026, making him one of the youngest players in this year's draft. Given his age, the expectation he will grow into his 6-foot-3 frame and his positional versatility, Grindlinger is considered one of the highest-upside players in his class.
As a senior at Huntington Beach this year, Grindlinger hit .376 with two home runs and 22 RBIs. As a pitcher, he threw 57.1 innings and had an ERA of just 0.85 with 66 strikeouts.
