Kyle Shanahan is entering his 10th season as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, and thus far has led his team to an 82-67 record, five playoff appears and two NFC championships.

While appearing in multiple Super Bowls is an impressive level of success for a coach, the lack of a win in that game has some of Shanahan's detractors wondering if he's incapable of accomplishing that feat and hoisting a Lombardi Trophy.

With those questions comes more about his long-term future with the team, but 49ers tight end George Kittle doesn't understand why anyone would question his coach's job security.

“Anybody that says Kyle Shanahan is on the hot seat, you guys are not the smartest," Kittle recently told USA TODAY Sports. "It doesn’t make any sense to me. The fact that we were able to go to the playoffs, win a road game, and make it to the second round is pretty incredible to me.”

Shanahan was a big reason for San Francisco's success in 2025, as they were able to make it to the playoffs and knock out the defending Super Bowl champions despite injuries to several key players. He even received six first-place votes in the Coach of the Year voting.

There haven't been any signs of Shanahan's message growing stale with the 49ers yet, and if his team stays healthy in 2026, there's a chance that they're playing in the NFC championship again.
