Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, a former Middletown High School standout, is participating in the Home Run Derby on July 13 during the All-Star break, MLB announced via Twitter/X.

Schwarber has hit 28 home runs against the Cincinnati Reds, more than he's homered against any opponent.

When Schwarber homered off of Reds starter Andrew Abbott in the third inning of the Reds' 4-1 loss in their series opener, Schwarber did something he hadn't done against Cincinnati and has rarely done throughout his MLB career: hitting a home run on a 3-0 count.

According to Baseball Reference, Schwarber homered on a 3-0 count for the first time against the Reds and just the second time in 12 MLB seasons.

Schwarber's only other homer on a 3-0 count came against the San Francisco Giants' Jarlín García on June 1, 2022.

Schwarber has hit 372 MLB home runs, including a league-leading 32 this season. He added a home run in the ninth inning July 8 against Rhett Lowder.

Four of Schwarber's homers against the Reds have come against Seattle Mariners starter Luis Castillo.
