Knicks fans erupted into violence on the streets of New York City after the team dropped Game 3 of the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, June 8.

Five NYPD officers were hurt in the clashes, which occurred mainly outside the city’s watch party at Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, according to NBC 4 New York.

Twenty-one people were taken into custody and eight were arrested and charged, the NYPD said. Thirteen others were released with criminal court summonses.

"People climbed on top of scaffolding, light poles, police cars, and NYPD trucks, causing significant damage," an NYPD statement said. "The crowd was throwing glass objects at each other and police officers, and they ripped bus signs and trees out of the ground to throw them."

On 42nd Street, Knicks fans jumped on surrounding cars and cabs, and hit windshields with lightsabers and other objects, Eyewitness News 7 reported.

A watch party for Game 4 on Wednesday, June 10, is still on tap, and officials will cordon off the perimeter outside Madison Square Garden and implement Times Square New Year’s Eve-style checkpoints and penning, according to the outlet.

Meanwhile, raucous fans who anticipated a series sweep took their anger out on a Victor Wembanyama Spurs jersey, which was torn apart by a crowd.

Inside Madison Square Garden, the Spurs big man dominated, disappointing Knicks fans who had paid thousands of dollars for the most expensive NBA Finals game in league history.

Wembanyama finished with 32 points in the 115-111 win.
