Johannes Høsflot Klæbo completed an epic cross-country skiing season with victory in the men's 10-kilometre World Cup race in Lahti, Finland to clinch the title, while Frida Karlsson overcame a stumble to win the women's event on Sunday.

Norway's Klæbo was victorious after 23 minutes 22.6 seconds, beating team-mate Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget by 22.1 seconds.

With the win, Klæbo sealed back-to-back overall World Cup titles and the sixth in his career. With five races left, second-placed team-mate Harald Østberg Amundsen can't reach him anymore.

"It was hard as always but I like Lahti and I like to do the 10k here. I’ve always loved it and today was another great day," the World Cup winner said.

Last month, Klæbo became the most successful Winter Olympic athlete of all time after claiming a record six gold medals at the Milan/Cortina Games.

He is also the world championship title holder in all cross-country disciplines.

After his sprint win on Saturday, Klæbo complained about fatigue and he will see if he will be able to compete on home snow in Drammen next weekend.

"The last two weeks I’ve been sick in the middle of the week and I’m racing at the weekend, so we can see if I can stay healthy now during the week so I can participate. That is the goal," he said.

Sweden's Karlsson led a one-two ahead of compatriot Linn Svahn after slipping up on a corner around the halfway mark.

But she bounced back to complete the race in 25:57.6, 4.1 seconds ahead of Svahn.

"I was just trying to focus on my own skiing and then I heard it was between me and Linn and then I was super excited to get that fight. The double win is really fun," Karlsson said.

World Cup leader and title holder Jessie Diggins of the United States was third.
