From Adam Shefter: Raiders put original round tender on LB Kirk Morrison. Raiders will have chance to match any offer sheet he signs - or get back 3rd rd pk

He's deffinetly worth it. I've seen a couple people offering our first round up which I don't think has a snow balls chance in hell of happening but a 3rd round for a proven tackler inside? This is one I would realistically think about doing.

He'd be WAY better than the other's mentioned to be brought in. Better than Pierce, Foote, etc. It also lets us go for sure best player available in the draft. We would have no pressing need.

Yes, I would like to add the leading tackler of the NFL's 29th ranked rushing defense. Can I give up a valuable draft pick for the privilege?

It would also help if he didn't make big plays.

Morrison is about as bad as Dansby is in the run game but can't cover anywhere as good so no thanks.

It's not really a good argument to pin a 29th ranked rushing defense on one player. It literally takes 6 or 7 good run defenders to have a good rush defense.

Morrison is a decent run defender on a terrible defense. Is he better than a 3rd round pick? Yes and no. If you get a Darnell Dockett? No. If you get a Buster Davis? YES! So trading a 3rd rounder for a decent known commodity at a position that will be woefully thin isn't a terrible idea.

I'm all for it. The Raiders D s god awful, you can't blame it on one ILB. If the men up front aren't doing their job eating up blockers then the LB's are in trouble. He was bad in coverage but was the 4th best LB against the run in those rankings.

The Raiders are a sum of parts and not a whole. They have great individual talent, like Nnamdi Asomugha and Richard Seymour, but terrible coaching and poor leadership. If you look at Morrison's stats, you'll see he is pretty consistent with regards to tackling. From what I remember, he is pretty quick and has good lateral movement. Not sure how he is in coverage, although he did have 4 INTs in one season.

But Dansby's primary responsibility was coverage. I'd rather have Scott Fujita and not have to give up a draft pick.

Now, if we for sure knew that Gerald Hayes wasn't coming back...

That's the only red flag. I'd have to talk to Oakland fans that watch him play frequently, because in '07 he had a huge season from a coverage standpoint. 4 picks and 10 PD's.
