Sacramento Kings two-way rookie Dylan Cardwell is reportedly set to be converted to a standard contract following a recent roster move executed by the organization.

The Kings on Saturday night agreed to trade Dennis Schröder and Keon Ellis to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for De'Andre Hunter, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. As part of the trade, the Kings will also send Dario Šarić and two second-round picks to the Chicago Bulls.

The reported deal, which hasn't yet been made official as of Sunday afternoon, will create a roster spot for the Kings, clearing the way for the team to sign Cardwell. It should also help create additional playing time for first-round pick Nique Clifford.

Cavs turn Hunter's slot into backcourt depth and create $50 million in salary and tax savings this season. Kings receive an established 3-and-D wing under contract through 2027 at age of 28 and roster flexibility, including converting two-way Dylan Cardwell to a standard deal. https://t.co/JF9EapXYpk

Cardwell has emerged as a key contributor for the Kings, averaging 4.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 assists on 58.2% shooting from the field in 23 appearances. He is third among rookies in blocked shots (38) and sixth in offensive rebounds (66).

The undrafted center from Auburn has appeared in each of the last 14 games for coach Doug Christie, averaging 5.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 assists. He has hauled in at least 10 rebounds five times, tied for the fifth-most games by a rookie this season.

With the Kings in last place in the Western Conference, the team will likely look to prioritize minutes for players like Cardwell over the second half of the season. Cardwell should soon have the chance to showcase himself in a larger role over the duration of the year.
