Sacramento Kings rookie Dylan Cardwell will reportedly be sidelined for at least one month because of a sprained left ankle, according to Marcus D. Smith of USA TODAY.
Cardwell will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks after sustaining the injury on Tuesday during a workout at the team practice facility. He will miss at least the next 14 games for the Kings over that span as he recovers from the injury.
The Kings also announced that Domantas Sabonis (ACL) and Zach LaVine (finger) underwent season-ending surgery to address their respective injuries. Some good news: Keegan Murray (ankle) practiced on Wednesday and will play on Thursday after missing the last 20 games.
Cardwell is averaging 5.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 assists while shooting 59.8% shooting from the field in 29 appearances with the Kings. He is third among first-year players in offensive rebounds (91) and blocked shots (47).
The undrafted center from Auburn had appeared in each of the last 20 games, averaging 6.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 assists over that span. He has hauled in at least 10 rebounds in five straight games, the longest streak by a rookie this season.
Cardwell was rewarded with a four-year contract earlier this month after a productive stretch on the court. He and the team will certainly hope his injury isn't serious and that he won't miss more time than the initial four-week timetable.
