I thought the instant replay was only supposed to be used to establish possession and position. How can they call a penalty based on the instant replay? The only question should have been whether Johnston had possession of the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

The flag cannot be thrown just like instant replay cannot reverse a penalty.
I think that old Dave will get an apology letter from the commisioner's office and that is all.
Oh well, so sad. Damn bad call. Sorry Cardinals. Love, Tali
On the next possesion Blake should have thrown a bullet at that ref's head!
This has been an absolutely abysmally called game...the horrendous spot for Blake on 4 and 1/2 inch, and the TD called back??? I still don't think the Cards could have won but really the officiating is absolutely horrendous...
Exactly! We did not deserve to win today but the officiating was horrible, terrible f'd up - whatever. I think we will beat Cleveland. More and more i think this is really not such a bad team.
BTW - Anyone paying atttention to Carolina and Ricky Proehl? One of my favorite ex-Cards.
That and the blown call on the 4th and inches really hurt the Cards...and what happened to Pro Bowl Player???Originally posted by Renz
Agreed. Every fan in America knows you can't call a penalty on replay, including that SOB ref!
You're right. The Cards will get an apology and that will be the end of it.
Screw instant replay! It doesn't work.

EXACTLY!?!?!?! - Either it is a TD or not? I do not understand how you can throw a flag AFTER the play? Help me here folks!

Yeah that whole call was screwed up. When the refs threw the flag, why couldnt Pittsburgh refuse the penalty and get the ball?

Yeah i was confused how there could have been a penalty called on a replay. The fact the announcers didnt call the refs out on it is what really threw me off, thought perhaps i was not clear on the rules.
Also on that 4th and inch play im not sure why Cards got charged a timeout. Wether or not Blake got the 1st down may not of been conclusive, but there is no way he lost yards on that play so at the very least the spot of ball was incorrect regardless if it was a 1st down or not.

If pitt refused the penalty then it would have been a Cardinal touchdown.

yes the endzone play sucked - but they had already put themselves down 28-3 in the game - it seems a little of a whack to me to get so bent out of shape about a game that we were down by 25 in - does that score make the game a little closer? Yes, but it still doesn't put us in the game.
