It was the right decision because it was the first half. If I am a 0-2 playing the Green Bay Frickin Packers with Mr. Brett Farve at QB, I kick the field goal and go into halftime tied at 10. Yes it is not a gutsy call, but to be able to go into halftime tied with a team associated with winning and the playoffs is a very big motivator.
The one thing many people forget is that the best thing you can do heading into halftime is make a positive play. It builds momentum and confidence over the time in the lockerroom and can set the tone for the first couple plays in the third quarter. If the Cardinals go for it and come away with no points what do you say?
You can't turn away the chance for sure points against a winning team especially when you are at home and have that working for you (maybe not as applicable in SDS). If we are on the road it is a much tougher call, but I generally like taking points especially in the first half to tie the game. If it was at the end of the game, you play for the win, but in the first half you have to tie the game.
Tough call to make but it was the right one.
