Kevin Durant enjoys clapping back at people who question his legacy or are critical of him on social media.

After Dillon Brooks had a career-high 40 points in the Phoenix Suns' 114-96 home win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Jan. 29, Durant sneered at local Suns podcast co-host Sam Cooper, who mocked him Jan. 30 on X about not reaching the 40-point mark this season.

40 point games in '25-26:

KD: 0

Dillon Brooks: 1

Durant simply replied, "31K."

Perhaps not coincidentally, the Suns acquired Brooks in the blockbuster trade that sent Durant to Houston last summer. To Durant, Brooks' 40 is small potatoes to his career-points mark, which Durant reached last season with the Suns. Durant's season-high is 39, which he scored against Minnesota on Jan. 16.

Durant's pettiness didn't stop there. Another commenter wrote in the same thread, "Yet you still don't have a single 60-point game." Durant took the digit six and retorted, "Top 6," which referred to himself being among the NBA's top six all-time leading scorers. Durant is currently sixth on that list.

Following the "60" comment, another person attacked Durant and wrote, "31,000 (and) zero fanbases that love you, that’s wild. Dillon has 3." That's regarding the three teams Brooks has played for in his nine-year career: Memphis, Houston and Phoenix.

Durant smugly replied, "I rather u hate me. It Makes me better and gets u aroused. Win win."

The Suns have been a thorn in Durant's side since they traded him.

After Durant nailed the game-winning 3 to beat Phoenix in Houston on Jan. 5, Durant repeated his sentiment about the Suns. Durant told the media that he felt "scapegoated" because the team did not meet its championship expectations.

Last season, the Suns won just 36 games and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They won just one playoff series during Durant's time in Phoenix.
