Two big recruitments continue to be the focus of Kentucky Basketball in the transfer portal.

We’re continuing to watch Syracuse transfer forward Donnie Freeman and Furman transfer guard Alex Wilkins.

Both have been on visits to Kentucky, and could be major pieces for Kentucky’s transfer portal class if the Wildcats can close the deal. Freeman concluded his visit on Wednesday, while Wilkins began his later that evening and is still on campus as of Thursday afternoon.

Kentucky is in a battle with UConn for Freeman, who was a standout at Syracuse last season, averaging over 16 points and 7 rebounds per game. Freeman is expected to visit UConn on Friday. Kentucky was hoping to get a commitment wrapped up during his visit to Lexington, but indications are that he will make the trip to Connecticut to close out the week.

Wilkins is one of the best mid-major transfers in the portal and could be a huge pickup if Kentucky can seal the deal. He’s also had interest from UConn.

At Furman last season, Wilkins averaged 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game, while shooting around 33 percent from three.

As we’ve seen, the transfer portal is a roller-coaster ride, so we’ll see how these recruitments shake out.

Not targeting high-level three-point shooters after your best shooter transferred is certainly a strategy…
