Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have recently been followed by rumors that they were going to hire former NBA star Jamal Crawford as an assistant coach. Pope recently commented on it, and indicated that it wouldn't happen this year, but left the possibility open in the future. That future could line up nicely with their latest scholarship offer.

Jamal's son J.J. is a member of the 2029 recruiting class, and is expected to be one of its top players. In fact, ESPN ranks him as the No. 1 overall player in the class, and Kentucky has extended him an early scholarship offer.

Kentucky joins a growing list of schools to have already offered the younger Crawford that includes Kansas, Louisville, and Missouri. However, the Wildcats could gain an edge if his father comes to Lexington. Pope mentioned that Crawford had a few years remaining on his contract with NBC, which would line up perfectly with J.J. making a decision.

Obviously, it's all just speculation for now. Any type of commitment is still a few years away, and a lot can happen during that time. Still, it's a sign that Pope plans to be here for the long-term, and won't shy away from top players. We will continue to follow this story.
