The Kentucky Wildcats currently have one open spot for an assistant coach on Mark Pope's staff, and the rumor mill has put forward former NBA player Jamal Crawford for some time. While he would be a nice addition, it doesn't seem like it will happen this year.

On Wednesday, Pope spoke to Kentucky Sports Radio about Crawford, and had this to say, among other things.

Jamal’s still got two years left on his NBC contract. I’m good friends with Jamal. We’ve been friends for a long time. There might be a time where it’s good for him to jump into coaching. It’s something that he would like to do.

Crawford is currently working for NBC, announcing games alongside Reggie Miller and Mike Tirico. He is also coaching as an assistant for his son's high school team, so he's a busy man at the moment.

So, who could fill the final spot on the staff for the Wildcats? Pope emphasized that it had to be the right fit and the right person for the job. They could elect to leave the spot empty if that person doesn't come along. We'll update the coaching search as it progresses.
