Jackson Kent struck out eight over five innings as the Rochester Red Wings defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 7-2 Friday night at ESL Ballpark.
Kent allowed just two hits and one run — a solo homer by Andrew Pintar in the third inning — to improve to 6-3 this season. Four relievers combined to hold the Jumbo Shrimp to one run over the final four frames.
Rochester set the tone in the first inning. Christian Franklin beat out an infield single, stole second and scored when Abimelec Ortiz hit an RBI double to right, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead.
After Pintar tied the game with his home run, Rochester quickly responded in the bottom of the third. Ortiz walked, Andrew Pinckney hit an RBI double to center and Trey Lipscomb followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-1.
The Red Wings extended their lead in the fourth. Phillip Glasser led off with a double, Franklin hit an RBI triple to right and Yohandy Morales added a run-scoring groundout for a 5-1 advantage. Catcher Riley Adams added a solo homer to left in the fifth, his eighth of the season.
Jacksonville’s only late push came on Graham Pauley’s solo homer off Paxton Schultz in the seventh, but Rochester answered in the eighth. Abimelec Ortiz ripped a double to right and Brady House followed with a single to center, pushing Ortiz to third. Andrew Pinckney then lifted a sacrifice fly to right that brought Ortiz home for the Red Wings’ seventh run before Trey Lipscomb grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Franklin finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, while Ortiz also went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs. Pinckney added two hits and two RBI.
