For the first time this draft, the guy we took at #141 (Kenny King) was at the the top of my board at the time.

I too had hoped that Rien Long would drop to us (but I didn't think that was likely). But King figured to go earlier.

He's kind of a bigger version of Vonnie Holliday - would fit nicely on the left side at DE but can also play in rotation on the inside as well. Good value pick, and it kind of fills a need.

How does he fill a need Jeff?

Are you saying this guy taken this late will beat out Wakefield,KVB, or our 1st Pace???

Wakefield probably....Pace doubtfully.

All the EXPERTS on here who wanted Antwan Peek from Cincinnati....hold your breath but The Sporting News had King ranked higher as a better defensive end.

Kenny King
SELECTED BY ARIZONA , ROUND 5, PICK 6, OVERALL PICK 141
DT | (6-2, 281, 4.99) | ALABAMA
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Top high school weight man who finished second in the state shotput with a throw of 57 feet. Played in every game and started all but the opener as an 18-year-old freshman in 1999. Started the first seven games in 2000 before hurting his shoulder and missing three of the last four games. Started every game in '01. Missed time in '02 with an injury to his right shoulder (suffered in the opener) and a neck stinger suffered in mid-November against LSU. Generally played inside at tackle most of '02. Had 50 stops, 14 tackles for loss and 51 sacks in '99; 42-4-11 in 2000; 45-1-11, recorded his first interception and recovered three fumbles in '01 and 51-7-3 in '02.

Positives: Can play and has played tackle and end. Has first-step quickness and good athleticism. Can be disruptive inside with his quickness. Shoots gaps and changes directions well and can get through trash. Smallest but most athletic and quickest of the three Alabama senior linemen.

Negatives: Lacks the great edge speed teams want in an end and the size and bulk they want inside. Consistency has been lacking in the past. Tends to get too upright, making it much easier to block and move him. Has had some neck problems.

Summary: Is not quite a true tackle or end but should be selected as a combination guy who could play both.

LOOKS LIKE a situational pass-rushing tackle to me....

Yet another poor choice

No one was thinking the best athlete with this pick. He is way too slow to be an edge rusher, too small to play inside, though he is fairly strong. He is no help on special teams.

The comparison to Wakefield is valid, but he doesn't have as much savvy or drive. He is stronger. The bigges problem is that he offers no hope of helping the anemic pass rush.

Every pick made today can be ripped on. He's a darn good choice in the 5th round, IMO. Maybe he can give us a rush from the DT spot. He had 51 sacks in college. Should we try to improve Bell and Davis as third down rushers or not? He'll have a good shot at making this team.

Can we confirm this guy had 51 sacks in college??

If thats true that would be an amazing number for a college player!

That has to be a typo!

Kenny King had a great super bowl run with the Raiders in '80

Hopefully, he can turn it up a notch with the Cards!

Every pick on the second day (except Rien Long) can be ripped on.

This isn't a bad pick

We should have taken a DT here. If he can apply any pressure at all on third downs, he is an upgrade.

A spade is a spade my friend!

I have been tooting Boldin's horn for 4 weeks so I am very happy with our WRs.

I just hope we can win a few games 35-32 next year.

Totally agree, Zona. We can still fill some holes with quality and salvage what, on paper at least, appears to be a poorly executed draft plan.

zona..I am all over the following:

Clint Mitchell DE Florida
Tully Banta-Cane DE Calf
Tank Reese DT Kansas St
Shane Walton CB Notre Dame
Brett Romberg C Miami FL or
Wayne Lucier C Colorado

Surprised most of these guys are left..although I am not sure reese was supposed to be drafted...he is a fireplug - kind of guy we could use on our roster..we not really have one. Doubt the cards would want romberg..but I think he would be a good pick.

At the top of my board as we get within 15 of our #177 pick in the 6th round -

- Garrett CB
- BJ Tucker CB
- Elpheage CB
- Walton CB (CB's are out of need)
- Harris DT (sleeper pick)
- Moore DT
- Lucier C
- Romberg C
- Mitchell DE
- Cole DE
- Tucker *
- Ogden * (another sleeper)
- Clemons LB
- Haggins LB

(I forgot about Washburn - I'd peg him right below Mitchell).

We are beginning to sift thru the dregs, boys and girls. There are a few other guys who may be better athletes but do we need them? I'm thinking Willie Pile, Anes, Crowell, Kircus (still another wideout)?

This is where you can find the diamonds and save your bacon. These are the rounds that good teams with quality scouting work their magic. Hell, I be happy if they just fall into someone by accident. Late round shining, yup, that's what I'm hoping for.
