The judge presiding in the case of Alabama basketball center Charles Bediako could be recused after a motion made by the NCAA.

According to documents obtained by The Tuscaloosa News, arguments for why Judge James "Jim" Roberts should be removed from the case in the NCAA's request include "Intense Media Scrutiny of the Court’s Impartiality Is a Compelling and Sufficient Basis for Recusal" and "Even Indirect Financial Ties to a Party Require Recusal."

When Front Office Sports first asked Judge Roberts about his financial ties to the University of Alabama as an active "Circle" level donor of the Crimson Tide Foundation's Lifetime Giving Society, a call to his office on Friday, Jan. 23 went unreturned.

The Jan. 23 article published by Alex Schiffer was included in the NCAA's motion for recusal the following Monday.

Court documents include Schieffer's article under "Exhibit C" and highlight the following sentence: "The judge’s family has given at least six figures to the athletic department and his wife is representing a former basketball player in a murder case.”

In an ensuing article, Front Office Sports noted that it reached Roberts' office on Monday, Jan. 26, but his camp declined to comment.

Judge Roberts extended Bediako's temporary restraining order by ten more days on Jan. 26, allowing the 7-foot center to continue his second-stint with the Crimson Tide for at least Missouri on Jan. 27, plus Florida and Texas A&M in the games to come.

A time and date for Bediako's rescheduled injunction hearing have yet to be announced.
