FORT WORTH, Texas–Josh Berry was cruising to a Stage 2 win at Texas Motor Speedway in the Würth 400.

Then he wasn’t.

On the exit of Turn 4, Berry hit a bump in the racetrack that unsettled his No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford Mustang. His car got loose on Lap 126 and spun around from the lead, hitting the outside wall, to bring out the fourth caution of the day. Berry and his team would then spend the next 84 laps behind the pit wall in the NASCAR Cup Series garage for lengthy repairs before returning to the race.

“Just started to approach the lap traffic,” he explained, after being released from the infield care center. “You have no choice but to run the opposite lane. Your car is never going to turn if you follow them. I went around the 62 (Jesse Love) on the outside and felt pretty decent about it. Then caught the 51 and was working on the 51 (Cody Ware) and hit that bump and got loose. I don't know what I would do too much different. Obviously in these cars, especially at a place like this you are going to be fast, it is going to be uncomfortable and you are going to be on edge.

“Unfortunately it bit us today.”

The Las Vegas winner led 41 laps, the second most of his Cup Series career. He set his career best at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this year at 56 laps, where he DNF’d after a last lap crash.

“It caught me off guard a little bit,” Berry told Fox Sports. “I’ve found in these cars that if you’re going to be fast, it’s going to be uncomfortable.”

Berry's victory earlier this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway locks him into the 2025 NASCAR Playoffs. He will make his 60th career Cup Series appearance next weekend at Kansas Speedway.
