Thursday has been a huge day for Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor. At last, the former Wisconsin Badgers tailback secured the bag he was looking for in the summer, as the AFC South franchise showed him the money, signing the three-time Pro Bowler to a two-year, $44 million contract extension.

But it wasn’t just Taylor who got some good news on the Colts’ side.

As the Colts continued practices at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana, Indianapolis principal owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon announced to the crowd in attendance that Taylor “is here to stay.” She then handed the mic to the 27-year-old Taylor, who surprised fans with the news that everyone was going to get free beers.

With his new contract, Taylor will not have to worry about his immediate future with Indianapolis, and perhaps makes the possibility of him playing his entire NFL career in Colts uniform even greater.

Taylor was selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft as the 41st overall pick of the class. He immediately turned heads in the pros, rushing for 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns on 232 carries through 15 games in his first season in the league.

The following season, he led the NFL with 1,8111 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 332 carries across 17 games. Injuries slowed him down the next two seasons, but he’s rebounded in a big way since. In the last two campaigns, he tallied a total of 3,016 rushing yards to go along with 29 touchdowns.

Those are numbers Colts fans can surely savor while enjoying a cold one.
